The Journey Continues – Year 2 sailing the Mediterranean

The Journey Continues – Year 2 sailing the Mediterranean

Its that time again; with winter over all thoughts and activities now move to sailing in the warm sun of the Mediterranean, with calm turquoise sea’s, a gentle breeze and stopping off in little bays with a sandy beach and a taverna set hidden under the shade of the trees, the perfect spot for lunch. Well that’s the dream and our hopes for this year.

The journey started last Wednesday 15th April; a bit of a long day as we finally reached the boat at 10pm, the flight was a bit bumpy and a bit traumatic for Hudson. He did have a friend on-board keeping him company a little pussy cat, but I think he was pleased when it was all over.

The boat preparations are fully underway; the boat has been clean in and out. Hapatoni was lifted and wash down last Friday, Mark has polished the hull so she is shinning, I have polished and sorted out the inside of the boat and have now started on the chrome polishing, which is not much fun so doing a bit each day. The sails will go on later this week, when we get some minor repairs done, then we are ready to go.

Until today we have had lovely sunshine about 23*c, and been wearing shorts and t-shirts, we enjoyed a hog roast BBQ with friends on the beach last Sunday as it certainly is a lot busier here now with people arriving during April and early May to get their boats ready for the summer. Unfortunately the wind got up last night blowing a F8 right on our nose so pushing the boat around a bit, so not a good night’s sleep. Well Almerimar is known for its windy days and today it has not stopped, yet it is still warm. The weather is due to improve over the next week and the weather window looks good for us to plan to leave on Sunday (pending the winds).

The plan is to sail up the coast via a few ports we stopped at last year to get to Calpe ready to head across from there to Ibiza. We plan to sail the Balearics during May and then across to Sicily, then not sure, the only fixed part of the trip is we have to be in Athens by the 17th July ready to fly home for Adam and Laura’s wedding.

Tonight we are off for dinner with our friends Tina and Tim at Leo’s then I believe it is quiz night, to Mark’s delight 🙁   Hudson has settled back in to boat life, he thinks he owns the marina and loves the beach as he can currently run free. We are both excited and can not wait just need a good weather window to start our trip.
